Soul + Jazz = Music T-Shirts for Summer

11 Aug

Inspired as much as by the need for an antidote to the widely-reported news that Kanye West has designed an £80 plain white t-shirt for APC (I suggest a supertax on anyone buying one of these, as they’ve obviously got far more money than they need) as by the need for a lighter alternative to our normal diet of Italian knitwear and mohair, these are some cool music inspired options that will look natty for this season (and probably next), and will still leave some money for more of that Italian knitwear for when the weather turns (they’re all under £20 inc. p&p).

Think Bill Cosby wandering through Central Park in 1960s NY, or Clint Eastwood hanging out backstage with Cannonball Adderley at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1974…now all you need is to find the perfect bucket hat that doesn’t make you like you work in a camping store, and you’re set for summer.

1) ‘The Road to Muscle Shoals’ tee

Inspired by an early 70s Billboard ad for Fame Records, this looks to me like the best t-shirt in the world at the moment.  Get one here:

2) ‘Stax’ tee from Concord Jazz

From a great range of soul and jazz t-shirts just released by Concord Jazz, this is simplicity personified: the iconic record label image printed on a grey marl ‘Fruit of the Loom’ tee.  Perfect.

I got mine from here, but they’re widely available:

3) Miles Davis ‘Cookin” tee, again from Concord Jazz

The classic 1950s LP sleeve design, this time on a red background:
